Program:
The MSO welcomes singers David Thorne Scott and Lydia Harrell to celebrate the holidays in Melrose! Thorne Scott, described as a “young Mel Tormé,” is joined by jazz/soul singer Lydia Harrell for selections of Christmas favorites that will leave you in the holiday spirit. You’ll also hear holiday music favorites like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, selections from the Polar Express, and more.

About the soloists

Singer David Thorne Scott has long been known for bringing a modern edge to the classics of the Great American Songbook. His album Shade was named a “Top 5 CD of the Year” by the Jazz Education Journal. His composition “I See You” was featured in the television show The Blacklist on NBC.

David has been a featured soloist with the Boston Pops, the Capital Jazz Orchestra, the New England Wind Symphony, the Cape Symphony, and the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra.

David is a Professor of Voice at Berklee College of Music.

Singer Lydia Harrell’s sultry, soulful voice and evocative songwriting have brought her to the stage with the Boston Pops and caught the attention of British record label, Real People Music. She has also serenaded NBA fans with America’s National Anthem.

Recent musical accolades include singing lead on a Bob Marley Tribute Album distributed by Sony Music Latin, winning the 2015 Duke Ellington Jazz Vocal Competition, performing at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and winning the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival Voice Competition.
