Violin virtuoso Irina Muresanu joins the orchestra for Sarasate’s exciting showpiece based on familiar tunes from Bizet’s opera, Carmen. You’ll hear music from John Williams, including Star Wars and the NBC Mission Theme, a special narration of Ernest Thayer’s poem, Casey at the Bat, and an orchestral version of Fenway Park’s most-beloved sing-along, Sweet Caroline.

About the Soloist

Romanian violinist Irina Muresanu has won the hearts of audiences and critics alike with her “irresistible,” (Boston Globe) exciting, elegant and heartfelt performances of the classic, romantic and modern repertoire. Irina Muresanu is a laureate and top prize winner in Montreal International, Washington International, Pro Musicis International, and Queen Elisabeth violin competitions. An active chamber musician and recitalist, Ms. Muresanu is a member of the Boston Trio and actively performs with Mistral and Walden Chamber Players. She has appeared in such festivals and venues as Bargemusic in New York, the Rockport Festival in Massachusetts, Bay Chambers concert series in Maine, Maui Chamber Music Festival in Hawaii, Reizend Music Festival in Netherlands, and the Rencontres des Musiciennes Festival in France and Guadeloupe islands.

Irina Muresanu also has a substantial discography on BMOP, Avie Records, Albany Records, Centaur and AR RE-SE labels, most recently working closely with composers Thomas Oboe Lee, Elena Ruehr and William Bolcom. Irina Muresanu currently serves on the faculty the University of Maryland and
has taught at Boston Conservatory, Harvard, and MIT. She is a recipient of the prestigious Artist Diploma degree and Doctor of Musical Arts, both from the New England Conservatory. Muresanu plays an 1849 Giuseppe Rocca violin and an Étienne Pajeot bow.
